Why we built this
Nobody would explain the bill
The first version of CareGap was a weekend hack born from a simple observation: someone in our lives got a bill that didn't make sense, and no matter how many times we called the hospital, nobody would explain why a routine procedure cost 20× the Medicare rate.
Eventually we realized the billing office wasn't confused. They knew exactly what they were doing. They were counting on us not knowing the rules. So we built the tool we wished we'd had that week: one that reads the codes, knows the benchmarks, and cites the law back.
Who's behind it
A three-person team
Saket
Data & analytics
Keeps us honest about what the numbers actually say. Built the CMS fee-schedule matcher and the pricing-anomaly logic.
Jeel
Frontend & UX
Obsesses over how things feel. Rewrites each flow until the next click is obvious.
Aditya
Backend & systems
Does the technical heavy lifting: the bill-reading pipeline, document parsing, legal matching, and dispute logic.
How we handle your data
Your bill is yours
A medical bill is sensitive. We treat it that way. Your bill is used to produce your analysis and letter, nothing else. We don't sell it, we don't share it with hospitals, insurers, or collectors, and we don't run ads against it.
You don't need an account, and you don't have to hand over insurance details to get a full analysis. The less of your information we need, the better.
Under the hood
How it works
Bill reading
Reads your bill image and extracts every code, charge, and provider detail.
CMS comparison
Checks each charge against 18,000+ codes in the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule.
Protection matching
Maps your bill to federal and state protections like the No Surprises Act.
Letter generation
Drafts a specific, citation-backed dispute letter with real statutes and amounts.
